Background:

Duo Maxwell is Gundam pilot 02, coming from L2 Colony in the mecha built by that colony's brilliant scientist, Dr. G. Duo's gundam, is called Deathscythe. Although his gundam is called the 'God of death', he is the complete opposite. Duo is cheerful, fun loving, and friendly. You can easily spot him on-screen. He's the guy with the long braided hair and always wears black. But, don't mistake him for a girl!!!

In the series and later in the OAV, Endless Waltz, we learn that Duo was orphaned at the age of four, when Federation troops destroyed the neighborhood he lived in on L2. From that time until we meet him in Gundam Wing, his childhood has been the stuff of an investigative journalism expose on street children. Duo's past was so chaotic and unstable that he even had to give himself a name.

While the other Gundam pilots are miniature adults, serious, brooding, or sad most of the time, Duo seems to be perpetually wearing a lopsided grin. He is sort of the comic relief for the other four pilots, whose missions seem to always weigh heavily on their minds. Duo is, at times, almost psychotically cheerful, much to the consternation of his fellow pilots. His optimism appears incredible, especially given the circumstance in which he finds himself.

Duo chatters constantly and is always bemoaning the fact that there is no one to talk to. Heero's first real words to Duo were, "You talk a lot", after which Heero said nothing to Duo for several more episodes.

Duo is my most favorite character in the whole anime series. Sharing it with Trowa. I absolutely love his positive outlook in life. He's always cheerful and he is so humorous. I onced tried a Gundam Wing compatibility test.... as it turns out I'm compatible with Duo!!!! Yeah ^o^!!!!!
